Vopak, a global energy storage company, needed reliable charging infrastructure for their F-150 Lightning fleet at their Deer Park Terminal in Houston. The challenge wasn't just about charging capability—installation simplicity, product reliability, and comprehensive warranty coverage were critical factors for this industrial operation.
The traditional approach of installing four 80A Level 2 chargers would have required significant electrical infrastructure investments including a new transformer, power distribution box, and electrical panel upgrades. For an energy terminal operation, minimising installation complexity while ensuring long-term reliability was essential.
Standard charging solutions typically require dedicated electrical infrastructure for each charging station, leading to substantial installation costs and extended project timelines for multi-vehicle charging requirements.
Teal engineered a custom INITIUM 30 solution specifically configured for Vopak's cost-efficiency and installation requirements. Rather than forcing them to adapt to a standardized solution, we configured two 30kW units with daisy-chaining capability and sequential charging to serve four F-150 Lightning vehicles while minimising electrical infrastructure needs.
Our ground-up engineering approach allowed us to provide intelligent power management that works with existing 480V electrical infrastructure using a single 200A breaker. This configuration eliminates the need for new transformers, distribution boxes, and panel upgrades, something standardised offerings simply cannot provide.
This flexible configuration provided Vopak with several operational advantages:
The INITIUM 30 installation has demonstrated reliable operation in demanding Texas industrial conditions, including high temperatures and humidity with solar heat load. The system consistently delivers full 30kW charging power with 100A output capability.
Key Performance Highlights:
The installation has successfully provided cost-effective fleet charging while avoiding the substantial electrical infrastructure investments that traditional solutions would have required. The daisy-chain and sequential charging capabilities ensure optimal fleet coverage with minimal installation complexity.
"Installation was easy. Everything went as planned. Chargers are delivering full 30kW being 100A output rated."
— Rodney Hubbard, Project Manager for Vopak
This Vopak success demonstrates how Teal's engineering flexibility solves challenges that standardised charging solutions cannot address. Our ability to configure exact solutions for cost-efficient installation and industrial reliability makes Teal particularly valuable for energy operations where installation simplicity and long-term dependability are essential.
