Teal Electrification Systems Announces the launch of their 30 kW Level Three DC Fast Charger
The fast charger, designed to operate reliably in temperatures down to -40 degrees celsius, is scheduled to be ready for sale in early 2024.
Teal Electrification Systems (Teal), a Canadian technology firm building electric vehicle charging solutions, is announcing the upcoming launch of their first product offering: a 30 kW level three DC fast charger. Designed and built in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, these chargers are specifically engineered to operate in harsh winter weather conditions, with the ability to reliably operate in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius.
At an event on December 7th, 2023 at their research and manufacturing facility in Saskatoon, Teal hosted government representatives and members of Saskatoon’s business, tech, and automotive communities to demonstrate the 30 kW charger for the first time, which is scheduled to be ready for sale in early 2024.
With the 30 kW fast charger, Teal offers a product that balances charging performance, cost, and reliability in an impressive package. It can fully charge a Ford Lightning - one of the most popular electric pickup trucks- from 0-100% in just over three hours, which is comparable to Flo’s 50 kW charger, but at one third the equipment cost.
In addition to cost-effective charging abilities, Teal’s 30 kW charging solution outperforms comparable options - especially in harsh conditions. Pressure sensitive buttons, easily replaced cables, tap payments, and machined aluminium holsters minimizes wear components, and ensures that operators can reliably offer EV charging to customers or staff in both wet and cold conditions.
“We are very excited to introduce our 30 kW fast charger to the Canadian market.” said Soheil Akbari, CEO and Founder of Teal. “Our goal with the 30 kW charger was to introduce high-quality and cost effective equipment options that can perform flawlessly in any condition, for a broad range of charging use cases. I believe we’ve delivered on that.”
The 30 kW charger can be ordered from Teal with or without a payment terminal for either retail or fleet use cases. Teal also offers EV Charging operators the ability to charge by charging time, by Kilowatt-hour (kWh), or a blend of both. Payment is offered without the requirement of a mobile application. “It was very important to us to make charging payment as simple as possible.” said Akbari, “We want to ensure that any EV user is able to access charging services with little to no experience of charging technology”. The payment flexibility in particular makes the charger an ideal choice for municipalities, car dealerships, or private businesses that want to offer hassle-free charging to residents or customers.
“The 30kW solution provides 150 to 200 kilometres in range per hour and can integrate in many commercial settings without triggering electricity demand charges and the need for setting up new electrical services. It perfectly fills a gap in the market in need of higher speed charging at minimal capital cost.” said Akbari.
Teal's 30 kW level three DC fast charger is set to change the electric vehicle charging landscape across Canada and the US. Its cutting-edge technology and cost-effective price point combined with its ability to withstand harsh weather conditions makes it a game-changer in the industry. Following later in 2024 is the formal launch of Teal’s 360 kW fast charging offering, which will add premium level three charging speeds for retail EV charging operators in North America.
